Depending on which TV you have in your living room, it may or may not have great speakers built-in. Companies these days are putting out some fantastic TVs that can produce great image quality but then end up slacking when it comes to audio quality. This is fair since those types of TVs will usually save you a bit of money but there are times when things change and you want to improve the sounds coming from your TV. This is where soundbars come into play and LG has just announced three high-end models with Google Assistant built-in.
Soundbars are also great for those places where you either can’t or don’t want to run speaker wire for a true surround sound experience. The typical soundbar is made to sit below or above your TV, but they are using technology that emulates the surround sound experience. So, for CES 2019, LG has been working closely with Meridian to improve the audio quality of their soundbars. Their results are three devices that are currently only being referred to by their model numbers (SL10YG, SL9YG, and SL8YG).
The company says their work with Meridian has been able to allow them to “up-mix two-channel audio to multiple, distinct channels without generating any distortion while maintaining tonal balance.” Not only will this increase sound immersion (by improving the sound field), but it also upgrades the clarity of vocals and lead instruments. LG isn’t stopping there though as they have built-in “the convenience of AI smart connectivity and voice recognition” by integrating Google Assistant.
This will allow you to initiate actionable voice commands such as “Hey Google, increase the volume,” while also getting informational responses with the “Hey Google, what artist is playing?” voice command. We will learn more about pricing and availability at CES in a couple of weeks.
