Google Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite may launch on Verizon in the US

Rumors of a “Lite” Google Pixel phone can be traced all the way back to April of this year. However, the rumors really picked up steam last month when we got our first look at leaked photos of the devices. Google certainly appears to be working on a Pixel 3 Lite and a new report claims it will come to the U.S. through Verizon in 2019.

After the initial leak, we saw photos of the Pixel 3 Lite side-by-side with a number of other smartphones. We then saw renders of two Lite models: the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite. The new report claims both Lite models will be coming to the U.S. in early 2019 and they will be available through Verizon. Many assumed the Lite models would be intended for other markets, but it sounds like Google is targeting the mid-range in the U.S. as well.

The specs for the Pixel 3 Lite models are still relatively unknown. They will likely have the Snapdragon 670 or Snapdragon 710 SoC. The smaller model is said to have a 5.5-inch display, while the XL Lite has a 6-inch display. Other tentative specs include 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 12MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, and a headphone jack.

Pricing is the big question mark here. Many Android users have been disappointed by Google’s pricing of the standard Pixel 3 lineup, but flagship devices are expected to have high price tags. Google needs to be much more competitive with price if they want to sell devices in the mid-range market. Selling the devices on Verizon is a good start, but OnePlus has also been making a big push in the U.S. as of late. The competition will be very tough for the Pixel 3 Lite.
