Official TWRP is now available for the Essential Phone

Despite not achieving huge sales volume, the Essential Phone managed to reserve a spot in the hearts of enthusiasts since it was first introduced over a year ago. The phone had flaws including below average camera quality when it was first launched, but Essential managed to fix most complaints with software updates. With a price tag that still somehow manages to go down on retailers like Amazon, the Essential Phone is still an awesome deal even in 2018. It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, a titanium/ceramic build, and official Android 9 Pie with day-one monthly security patch updates. Now we have some good news for Essential Phone owners: Official TWRP is now available for the device through the official website.

TWRP is the most popular custom recovery in the Android development scene, so official support is always welcome. The phone already had plenty of development going for it since it has had unofficial TWRP builds for a while now, but official support from the lead developer is still welcome. First, the device will be receiving TWRP updates and patches together with the rest of the supported devices. Next, official support means you’ll be able to download the latest recovery images from the official website or the Play Store app.

If you were waiting for the official support you can download the official TWRP builds from the link below. The Essential Phone already has several custom AOSP-based ROMs like LineageOS, Resurrection Remix, AICP, and XenonHD, which you can take advantage of with these official builds, and of course, you also have other mods like Magisk. The phone is still kicking after one year, so we’re expecting a lot more development to come for it in the next months.
