Nubia Z20 Hands-on: Dual-Screens in a Different Way [Video]

Dual-screen phones were a big talking point this week thanks to, surprisingly, Microsoft. They showed off the Surface Duo, which features two displays connected by a 360-degree hinge. The Nubia Z20 is another dual-screen phone, but it takes a very different approach. XDA TV‘s TK Bay unboxed the phone and showed off how it works.

There have been many different attempts at getting the front-facing camera off the front of phones. Nubia’s approach with the Nubia Z20 is to remove the front camera entirely and slap a second display on the back. This means you can simply use the rear camera and display to take a selfie.

TK shows off how the displays automatically know which one you are looking at, so you can flip it back and forth in your hand and it will switch for you. The rear display is AMOLED (like the front), but it’s dimmer since it’s made to blend in with the back more. You can easily switch between apps on the front and back as well.

One weird thing about the Nubia Z20 is that it treats selfies and regular photos different. Even though both modes use the same cameras, if you’re using the rear display it will cap video to 1080p (even though it can do 4K when using the main display). Check out TK’s full video below to see his full impressions.
