The first AOSP Android 10 custom ROM is already available, and it’s quite stable

After months of thorough beta-testing, Android 10, the latest major version of Android, is now officially available. The update is rolling out to some devices, including Pixel smartphones, the Essential Phone, and, in a surprising turn of events, the Redmi K20 Pro, as well as the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro in the form of a beta update. It has also become available through the Android Open Source Project, providing OEMs and developers with the finalized Android 10 source code to play around and compile. This also means that custom ROMs are now due to come at any given time, and indeed, they have already started appearing: the first Android 10-based custom ROM is now available for download.

Said ROM is available for the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, which is part of Asus’ Android One lineup. The big news here, though, is that the ROM seems to be pretty much stable for the most part, despite the OS’ source code having been released a mere 2 days ago. The ROM is marked as “stable” and there appear to be no major bugs whatsoever. This spells very good news going forward: given how easily it was brought up for this device, then we might be seeing several other ROMs for several other devices in the next few weeks or even days.

If you have an Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 and want to check out Android 10 on your phone, then go right ahead and visit the thread to download it. It is barely more than simple AOSP, mind you, and you’ll have to use a special TWRP build as well as special Gapps, all of them provided in the same post.

As we said before, if you’re interested in trying it out for your device, you could very easily be expecting to receive an update in the next couple of weeks, depending on developer support for your device. Are you excited about Android 10? Let us know down in the comments.
