The Redmi K20 was launched only a few months ago (and just last month in India), but we’re already hearing about its successor. What’s more surprising about that is we’re not getting more information from a rumor or leak. This news comes straight from an official source: Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing. He says the Redmi K30 will have 5G support.
Weibing shared this information on his Weibo page, simply saying (translated): “Redmi K30 will support full Netcom 5G!” First and foremost, this confirms the K30 is in the works. Most people expected a successor after the K20 was so well received, but it’s nice to know officially.
The next part is 5G, which is a big deal right now. Xiaomi currently offers the Mi Mix 3 5G, so the Redmi K30 would be the first 5G device on the Redmi brand. That means we’ll likely see a moderate price increase over the K20. Other than that, nothing is known about the Redmi K30. The K20 has triple rear cameras, the Snapdragon 855 SoC, 4,000 mAh battery, and pop-up selfie camera. Even with middling improvements, the K30 is already looking great.
It’s coming and it will have 5G. That’s what we know right now.
