For every smartphone since the 2016 OnePlus, OnePlus offers 2 years of software updates and 3 years of security patches. Looking at OnePlus’ Software Maintenance Schedule, we can see that there’s nearly a year left of support for the 2018 OnePlus 6. Besides the bi-monthly OxygenOS stable updates, OnePlus also maintains OxygenOS Open Beta builds for both the 6 and 6T. The last beta builds for both devices merged the July 2019 security patches, while today’s OxygenOS Open Beta 23/15 update for the OnePlus 6/6T adds DC Dimming and the updated screen recorder.

OnePlus, like many other Chinese smartphone brands, has added DC Dimming as an optional display feature. If you’re unfamiliar with DC Dimming, it’s an alternative to Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) that involves dimming the screen by adjusting the DC current. It’s useful for reducing screen flickering at low brightnesses, but it comes at the cost of quality. Many of you may not notice this screen flickering in your day-to-day use, but some people are more sensitive to it and may experience significant eye strain at low brightnesses. DC Dimming debuted on the OnePlus 7 Pro and was later added to the OnePlus 7 in an update. The feature is accessible in OnePlus Laboratory in Settings > Utilities.
With the Android Q DP3 release, we spotted an updated screen recorder APK that adds new resolution, fps, and bitrate options. It also hides the floating widget during screen recordings. Version 2.2.0 can be downloaded manually, but it appears to have been added in the Open Beta update anyway.
