Google Photos is one of the most beloved applications. Whether you use Android or iOS and whether you like Google or not, you have to admit that this app is helping a lot of people. Unlimited high-quality photo and video backup across multiple (virtually all) platforms is undoubtedly very comfortable and even necessary for many people. Google frequently updates the app to improve the overall experience as well. For example, the Android version of the app received a dark mode just over a month ago. Now, a new handy little change has appeared.
Version 4.20 of Google Photos was released just a week ago. Google being Google, they didn’t include any kind of official changelog, so it was up to the users to discover the changes. The first and probably the most noticeable change was noticed by 9to5Google yesterday. Apparently, the newest version of Google Photos enables video previews in the photo timeline. The videos in your timeline show 5-second previews. If there are multiple videos in the view, the previews play one by one. This gets repeated until you scroll past the video/s. You can see the feature in action below.
The video-preview feature seems to be working for all supported versions of Android, meaning it’s not exclusive to Android Q beta, as some of the past features were. Previews work on both local and backed-up content in “Month” and “Comfortable” views. You can update to the 4.20 version of Google Photos via Play Store listing below. Our testing showed that Google went with a wide rollout, so it should already be available.
