The Moto Z2 Force is already a two-year-old device, but despite its age, it has more than capable specifications to run the latest version of Android. The smartphone features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6GB RAM, a 5.5-inch 1440p display, and a microSD slot. That’s why users have requested the Android Pie update for so long. Motorola finally fulfilled its users’ wishes as one user reports that they received an Android 9 Pie update.
XDA Member Danilo_Pascal shared a screenshot of their Moto Z2 Force running the official Android 9 Pie update in a thread over on our XDA Forums. We can’t really say much about the update; all we know is that it’s Android 9 based and includes the fairly new May 2019 security patches. Also, the build number is PPx29.159-10. From what we know, it looks like the OTA has only been sent out to some users in Brazil. This post is the only one we can find for the rollout. If you own the Moto Z2 Force and are based in Brazil, make sure to check for updates and let us know the result in the comments.
Due to the lack of information, we don’t really speculate about the final release date for the update. As far as we know, Motorola is using a gradual rollout method, starting with one of its largest user bases in Brazil. This is also where the company pushes soak tests of its future updates very often. All we know is that it was about time for Motorola to release this long-awaited update. I can only speculate that they will start slow to look out for bugs and issues and will speed up the release process slowly.

Update: In the US – Only Verizon
In an odd twist, Motorola will not be updating all Moto Z2 Force models to Android Pie. The company will update the Verizon model, but T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint owners are out of luck. Motorola is still committed to providing 2 years of security updates, but this is disappointing news for Z2 Force owners on other carriers.
