The Samsung Galaxy M40 with Infinity-O display, triple rear cameras, 15W fast charging launched in India for ₹19,990 (~$290)

Earlier this year, Samsung streamlined its objectives to tackle Xiaomi’s price-effective offerings in India and launched the online-only Galaxy M series targetted at young users. Having sold 2 million units of the Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, and the Galaxy M30 collectively, Samsung appears to have succeeded to quite an extent. Last month, the company started teasing another new addition to this series – the Galaxy M40 – which has now been launched in India. The Galaxy M40 brings a hole punch display design to the sub-₹20,000 (~$290) segment and features a triple camera setup and 6GB RAM and with these aesthetics of a premium smartphone, invades the territory dominated by the likes of POCO F1.

The 6.3-inch Full HD+ Infinity-O display on the Galaxy M40 is the feature which has been highlighted the most by Samsung. Unlike the Galaxy M30 which uses a Samsung Super AMOLED panel, this is an LCD panel with the position of the hole punch identical to the Galaxy A8s – Samsung’s first smartphone with a display cavity. The screen also doubles as a speaker, thereby replacing the earpiece. Along with 480 nits of peak brightness, Widevine L1 support on the smartphone ensures that users can enjoy over the top video content from services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in HD.

On the back, the Galaxy M40 features a triple camera setup and it includes a 32MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 5MP depth sensor, and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. The primary sensor on the back also supports features like 4K recording, slo-mo, and hyperlapse in terms of video. The hole punch on the front carries a 16MP selfie camera.

For performance, the Samsung Galaxy M40 is powered by the Snapdragon 675 mobile platform paired with 6GB of RAM. The device gets 128GB of internal storage with the option of expanding it to 512GB using a microSD card with the help of a hybrid SIM tray. In terms of battery, the Galaxy M40 is equipped with a 3,500mAh battery and supports 15W fast charging via the USB-C interface.

While the Galaxy M series recently got updated to One UI based on Android Pie, the Galaxy M40 comes with the latest Android version out-of-the-box. Samsung’s One UI comes with design elements organized to help users easily tap on the clickable elements in the UI without having to use the second hand.
