The integration of Google Assistant within Waze has been anticipated by many. If you need a refresher of mind, Waze is a navigation application which focuses on traffic reporting. It was acquired by Google in 2013 and has been gaining more data ever since. Google Maps has been getting Waze features, but the sharing hasn’t gone in the other direction as much. Now, Google Assistant integration is rolling out to the app.
As always, Google Assistant will let you play music, call your friends, or execute various commands without touching the device while navigating. What’s interesting is that the assistant now includes some Waze-exclusive commands. For example, you can ask it to report traffic or avoid tolls. Traffic reporting is one of the strong suits of Waze. That’s why integrating these kinds of commands are crucial for the service. Driving and navigating around traffic without distractions is as important as it gets. You can see the command in action below.
Google’s blog post mentions that the feature is only live in the US right now. Most likely they are restricting other regions for stability concerns. We should see Waze’s Google Assistant integration roll out to many countries as soon as the company makes sure that it works as intended. You can download Waze from the Play Store listing linked below.
