In spite of production delays, Samsung is entitled to be counted among the leading pioneers of foldable smartphones. While we can expect the Galaxy Fold‘s form factor to replace tablets eventually, Samsung is going all in and releasing tablets across various price ranges, even after noticing the global slump in the demand for tablets. The Korean giant has now released two new tablets – the Galaxy Tab S5e and the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 – in India. While the Galaxy Tab S5e is aimed at the premium segment, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 comes as a more affordable offering.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e
Primarily a device for entertainment, the Galaxy Tab S5e is very lightweight and features a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display. This display has tiny bezels along all four sides, similar to the iPad Pro models from late 2018, and an aspect ratio of 16:10 along with a resolution of 2560×1600. The tablet also features quad speakers tuned by AKG for a rich surround sound experience and supports Dolby Atmos in the case of wired playback.
The Galaxy Tab S5e is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 SoC along with 4GB of RAM. Onboard, there’s 64GB of inbuilt storage and it is expandable up to 512GB using a microSD card. The Tab S5e also gets a 6GB/128GB variant in other regions but not in India. To meet more than your daily entertainment needs, the tablet features a huge 7,040mAh battery. Additionally, the tablet can be used in the DeX mode with a dedicated POGO keyboard, which is sold separately.
The Galaxy Tab S5e is available in three colors i.e. black, gold, and silver. In terms of connectivity, Samsung offers options between Wi-Fi-only as well as Wi-Fi+LTE variants of the Tab S5e. We have come across users complaining about interruptions in Wi-Fi connectivity when the tablet is held in landscape mode but we hope that has been taken care of before the release in India.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1
Just like the other Tab A series devices, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is designed to offer a multimedia experience but at a much lower price. The tablet also features a unibody metal design but weighs slightly more than the Tab S5e. It is equipped with a 10.1-inch Full HD display with slightly thicker bezel above and below the display.
The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is powered by a Samsung Exynos 7904 SoC and 2GB of RAM. It features 32GB of inbuilt storage which can be expanded to up to 512GB using a microSD card. The tablet features dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support. It is stocked with a 6,150mAh battery for long binging sessions. The tablet also features a dedicated Kids Home which helps separate apps that can be used to help kids grasp new concepts.
This tablet also gets two options in terms of connectivity.
Pricing & Availability
The Wi-Fi-only model of the Galaxy Tab S5e is priced at ₹35,999 (~$520) while the Wi-Fi+LTE variant comes at ₹39,999 (~$575). This pricing does not appear as compelling as the $399 pricing in the U.S.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 variant with only Wi-Fi comes for ₹14,999 (~$215) while the model with cellular support is priced at ₹19,999 (~$290).
The Tab S5e will be available for purchase in India starting July 1st. Besides being available at most of the offline retail chains, the tablet’s Wi-Fi-only model will be sold online via Amazon India while the LTE variant will sell via Flipkart. Meanwhile, the Wi-Fi variant of the Tab A 10.1 will be available starting June 26th via Flipkart.
Both variants of both the tablets including the Wi-Fi+LTE variant of Tab A 10.1 will also be available online via Samsung’s e-Shop.
