Android Q Beta 4 is here for the Google Pixel, API 29 publishing now available

When the first Android Q beta was released, Google shared its rollout plans for all the following beta released. They’ve been staying true with that plan and that means it’s time for a new update. Android Q Beta 4 is rolling out for the Google Pixel family (including the Pixel 3a/3a XL) and partner OEMs can begin rolling it out to the long list of supported devices.

One of the new things in Beta 4 is the ability to publish app updates that are compiled against or targeting API 29 to Google Play. Developers can push updates to users through the Play Store to test their apps’ compatibility with Android Q. This is an important step toward the final release of Android Q.

As mentioned, the Pixel family can get the update today. That includes the Google Pixel, the Pixel XL, the Pixel 2, the Pixel 2 XL, the Pixel 3, the Pixel 3 XL, and the new Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. The previous beta was also available for the Xiaomi Mi 9, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G, Asus Zenfone 5z, Essential Phone, Nokia 8.1, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, LG G8 ThinQ, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, Oppo Reno, Realme 3 Pro, Sony Xperia XZ3, Redmi K20 Pro, Tecno Spark 3 Pro, Vivo X27, NEX S, and NEX A. Users of these devices will have to wait on the OEM to push out the update.

We will be diving deep into Android Q Beta 4 over the next few days. Google said the 4th beta would be for final APIs, official SDK, and the aforementioned Play publishing. This is the last update before Android Q reaches the release candidate stage, which will happen with Beta 5.
