OnePlus maintains an active channel of beta updates for its users, routinely testing out new features in OxygenOS for its smartphones. While the relative newness of the OnePlus 5/5T and the OnePlus 6/6T earns them most of the company’s attention in updates, the company has not forgotten older models – OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. After almost a year of assuring, the company recently announced Android 9.0 Pie for the OnePlus 3/3T as part of a Community beta to weed out bugs or inaccuracies before rolling out a stable version. Moving forth with the testing, the company is now bringing the second beta update for the two smartphones based on Android Pie.

With the latest Community beta update, the OnePlus 3 and 3T are getting a few improvements to the working of some of the system apps such as Messages and the Clock, as well as better support for wired headsets. The changelog for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T notes fixes for the following bugs:
- Clock timer and stopwatch interface display is incomplete
- Microphone doesn’t work when earphones are plugged in
- Crash issues with native message app
Please note that the Community Beta is not the same as the Open Beta updates that OnePlus pushes to its smartphones to test the latest features before they are implemented in the stable builds.
So, if you have a OnePlus 3 or a OnePlus 3T running a stable OxygenOS build and wish to try out the Android Pie update, download the firmware package for your device using the links below and place them in the root directory of the storage. You can install the update by heading over to Settings>System Update and choosing “Local Update” from the menu on the top right.
Alternatively, you can reboot in the Fastboot mode by holding down Volume Up and Power buttons together, use the volume buttons to enter Recovery mode, and choose “Install from Internal Storage” to flash the update.

If you’re already running an Open Beta, you will have to follow the Fastboot method. You will lose your data so make sure you take a backup before starting the process. When the stable version of Android Pie is released for the two devices, the Community Beta will be upgraded to the stable version and you’ll be required to install an Open Beta again if you wish to continue using new features.
