Motorola Moto Z4 renders show a headphone jack, large camera bump, and small notch

In 2018, when a score of brands jumped the bandwagon and launched smartphones with Snapdragon 845, Lenovo-owned Motorola still chose a dated notchless design and an older Snapdragon 835 chipset to power its so-called flagship, the Motorola Z3. But it should not repeat the same mistake again. Back in November last year, we spotted the first instances of a Motorola flagship, sporting a Snapdragon 855 (previously known as Snapdragon 8150) mobile platform. This was followed by some leaked renders which we saw last month that also confirmed the “Moto Z4” moniker. Now, thanks to another leak, we have a clearer image of the Moto Z4, and some assurance that Motorola is planning to retain the headphone jack and opt for a small camera notch, although retaining its camera bump.

While we got a sight of the front and back of the Moto Z4 last month, tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) recently shared images of the Moto Z4 on Twitter, revealing what all we could expect to see on the sides of the smartphone. Notably, there’s a headphone jack at the bottom along with the USB-C port and the primary mic. On the top, there’s a single speaker placed adjacent to the noise-cancellation mic and the SIM tray. While the left side is left blank, the volume rocker and the power button rest on the right side.

When looking at the Moto Z4 from the side, the glaring camera bump is seen. It seems that Motorola has taken the liberty to keep the camera bump untouched – like most of the design – from the Moto Z3 hoping that people would buy the 5G Moto Mod to cloak it. Additionally, there is no fingerprint scanner visible on the back or the sides of the Moto Z4, giving us cues that it might use an in-display sensor – although we’re not sure about that bit yet.

On the back, a single rear camera on Motorola flagship looks a little surprising, especially considering that it is reportedly working on triple and quad cameras on other devices. It may, however, hint that Motorola is utilizing some of Google’s computation photography expertise to back this camera, which is likely to be a 48MP shooter.

Based on the earlier leaks, we know that the Moto Z4 will utilize at least 4GB of RAM along with the Snapdragon 855 chip. It may have at least 32GB of storage but we can expect larger options considering its flagship status. Additionally, the Z4 will be accompanied by a Moto Z4 Play, which could possibly be powered by a Snapdragon 675 and feature a design identical to the flagship.

Both the smartphones are expected to be released in the first half of 2019, and we’ll keep you informed as we receive more information from our reliable sources.
