May 2019 security patches are out for Google Pixel phones and Essential Phone

Today is the first Monday of the month which means Google has released the May 2019 Android security patches. The last two months included some important functional updates for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. This month, the update is pretty barebones. There are no functional updates for Google Pixel devices.

Regardless, the Android security patches have been released for the Google PixelPixel XLPixel 2Pixel 2 XLPixel 3, and Pixel 3 XL. The Pixel C is no longer receiving major OS updates, so its monthly update is still Android 8.1 Oreo. As per usual, the Essential Phone is also receiving the Android security update on the same day.

The OTA files and factory images for the Pixel devices can be found at the links below. Find the Android security files for your device and click “Link” to start the download. To flash the update manually without losing all of your data, follow the steps outlined in this tutorial. The OTA update for the Essential Phone has just started rolling out.
