It may seem like it’s been longer, but ARCore has only been around for a little over a year. At Google I/O 2019, version 1.9 was released with a few new features and supported devices. We already talked about augmented reality features coming to Google Search and Google Lens. Now let’s talk about some of the features coming to the ARCore platform.
Scene Viewer makes it possible for AR experiences to be launched directly from websites without downloading any apps. This feature is aimed at removing the barrier of entry for hopping into an AR demo.

Environmental HDR is a new mode for Light Estimation that uses machine learning to understand high dynamic range illumination in 360-degrees. This helps digital objects blend in with the real world with realistic lighting to match the environment.
The Augmented Images API is getting an update that makes it possible to track multiple images, including moving images, at the same time. The Augmented Images API is used to put AR objects on 2D images, like pointing your phone at a magazine ad to see it comes to life in 3D space.
Lastly, LG’s latest devices now support ARCore. The LG G8 ThinQ and LG V50 ThinQ join the ranks of a pretty impressive list. Check out the Github page for more information about the ARCore SDK version 1.9.
