Android Pie was publicly released all the way back in August of 2018 (exactly 242 days ago). Most major Android OEMs have since treated their flagships and mid-range devices with Android Pie, and some have even rolled out the updates to even cheaper devices. LG has been abysmal in this regard as their update plans for Android 9 only featured the LG G7 for Q1 2019. Most LG G7 ThinQ owners are still waiting for the update and only the LG G7 One (Android One) and the LG G8 (launched with Android Pie) are on the latest public version of Android. LG has finally posted their update plans for Q2 2019, and thankfully, some more flagships like the LG V30, LG V35, and the LG V40 have been listed for this period.

According to LG’s update schedule, the Android 9 Pie update is planned for Q2 2019 for the LG V30 ThinQ, LG V35 ThinQ, and the LG V40 ThinQ. The V40 was released in October 2018, after the release of Android Pie, and more than half a year later, LG has only just announced the schedule. The schedule does not have any specific order or dates, but seeing the abysmal track record in handling the update, we wouldn’t hold our breath on an update coming sooner rather than later.
On the kernel sources front, the situation is relatively better. LG has already posted kernel sources for the V40’s Android Pie update. Now, LG has also posted kernel sources for the V35’s Android Pie update as well.
We hope the updates for all of these devices are on the horizon. LG does stick to its word most of times, but it has chosen its words carefully. The company isn’t lying about quick updates if it didn’t promise any in the first place. If quick updates are what you seek, maybe it is time to steer clear from LG devices for the future.
