Google Contacts tests showing a pop-up panel when adding new contacts

Google is testing out a new interface for adding new contacts to your phonebook with the Google Contacts app. A new card-like interface pops up when you attempt to add a new contact through another app such as WhatsApp, as reported by AndroidPolice.

This new card interface slides up on your screen, covering two-thirds of it. This is just an alternate interface, so the process of actually adding a contact remains the same. From the card, you can choose to add a new contact or update an existing one. The pop-up also respects your system theme settings, so you can get light theme or dark theme cards, just like how the Contacts app itself would behave.

This change, however, is not easy to reproduce. These pop-up cards were spotted on Google Contacts v3.5.7, but not everyone on this version of the app can see this change. The rollout also does not appear to be tied to Android versions. Further, the author of the original report had this functionality and then lost it the next day, which appears to be a very Google-esque thing to happen.

You can try out the latest version of the app and let us know if you can spot the new interface.
