Xiaomi Mi 9’s MIUI 9.3.27 beta adds a DC Dimming feature like the Black Shark 2

The Xiaomi Mi 9 was launched at Mobile World Congress last month. It’s Xiaomi’s latest flagship phone, with a top-tier specifications list to match. Its list of specifications includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with Adreno 640 GPU, 6GB/8GB of RAM with 128GB/256GB storage, 6.39-inch Full HD+ (2340×1080) OLED display, 48MP primary rear camera, 16MP ultra-wide angle camera, 12MP telephoto camera, 20MP front camera, and a 3,300mAh battery with 20W wireless charging. The phone is now available in Europe and China, and its software is under active development. Just recently, Xiaomi released MIUI Global Beta 9.3.21, which fixed the issue of notification icons automatically disappearing after a few seconds on the Mi 9 and the Redmi Note 7, despite plenty of space being available.

Now, Xiaomi has released MIUI 10 Beta 9.3.27 for the Xiaomi Mi 9 (device code-name: cepheus), which adds a DC dimming feature, similar to the Black Shark 2, which already comes with such a feature. The Black Shark 2 was launched this month as the successor of the Black Shark and Black Shark Helo gaming phones. While the Mi 9 is a standard flagship, the Black Shark 2 is a flagship specifically focused for gaming, with a gaming-centric hardware design and the “world’s first direct touch multi-layer liquid cooling system.” Its specifications differ from the Mi 9 with respect to RAM and storage configuration, rear cameras, and battery capacity.

DC dimming is a feature that automatically adjusts and dims brightness of the phone’s display according to the ambient environment. Apart from the Black Shark 2, Meizu, OPPO, and Vivo’s iQOO brand have also confirmed that their new phones will have this feature. DC dimming is said to change the display brightness by increasing or decreasing the circuit power.
