Xiaomi Redmi 6/6A’s kernel source code is now available

Xiaomi introduced both the Redmi 6 and the Redmi 6A to the world back in June of this year. Similar to many of their other product launches, these devices were only available in China (and through various resellers). However, that changed just a few months ago when the Xiaomi Redmi 6, Xiaomi Redmi 6A, and the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro were all brought to India. These phones were initially launched with MIUI 9, which was based on Android 8.1, but have since been updated to MIUI 10.

The MIUI 10 update is still based on Android Oreo, but the company has now released the kernel source code for the Redmi 6 and the Redmi 6A. Both of these devices already have official builds of TWRP available to them, but this kernel source code could help to light a spark and bring more community developers to their respective forums. Keep your eye on both development forums for each of these devices as we could see some custom ROMs and kernels released for them in the near future.
