There are a few routes a new smartphone maker can take when they launch their business. One method is to take thing slow and steady (like the tortoise). This is what companies like Essential have done. But then there’s another where the company plans a huge roadmap and they begin releasing smartphone after smartphone with no end in sight. It seems as if this has been HMD Global’s strategy with the Nokia brand as the company just doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Therefore, they have just released a smartphone with a 6.18-inch display (notch included) called the Nokia X7 that comes equipped with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 710 SoC.
The company had just unveiled the Nokia 7.1 as part of Google’s Android One program earlier this month. It’s a little less powerful than the Nokia X7 due to it having the Snapdragon 636 SoC, but we went hands-on with it recently and it’s quite the beauty if we do say so ourselves. Beyond the Nokia 7.1, we’ve been hearing rumors about a device called the Nokia 7.1 Plus when renders were leaked out last month. A couple of weeks later another device appeared on China’s TENAA certification website that many thought could end up being the Nokia 7.1 Plus.
The images don’t match up but there could be multiple variants of the device with different designs. In any case, Nokia has just officially launched the Nokia X7 and it looks exactly like the renders we had originally seen for the Nokia 7.1 Plus. Either the 7.1 Plus was an early name for the device or we could end up seeing HMD Global using it for the Nokia X7 in additional markets. The more expensive of the two Nokia X7 variants will be available in China starting on October 23rd for 2499 yuan (which is about $361) while the 4GB/64GB model will be priced at 1699 yuan (about $245).
During the launch, we were told the Nokia X7 will be available in Dark Blue, Red, Silver, and Midnight Black color options.
