Muzei is one of the best wallpaper apps you can find in the Play Store and it has been around for a long time. Things have changed a lot since it was released in the Android KitKat days, but the developer has consistently updated the app. It was time for a big change and that is exactly what has come with Muzei 3.0.
If you’re unfamiliar with Muzei, it’s a wallpaper app that can rotate through images. So your home screen is always looking fresh. But the really cool thing about Muzei is the support for plugins. There are tons of Muzei plugins in the Play Store to choose from. Version 2.6 of the app added support for Android Pie, but 3.0 is even bigger. The app has been refreshed and a brand new API for plugins is available.
The new API has more up-to-date tools for recent Android features. It’s now compatible with Doze and App Standby as well as Background Execution Limits. This will make sure your wallpaper doesn’t disappear due to battery restrictions. The API also allows for pre-loading wallpapers to speed up the transition times.
A new feature called “Auto Advance” adds some much-needed controls for when wallpaper should change. 4K displays demand high-resolution wallpapers, which can gobble up data if you’re not careful. This feature makes sure you’re not downloading huge photos on mobile data. Previously, these settings were available in plugins, but now it’s an app-wide feature.
Version 3.0 includes tighter integration with Tasker and better control over effects on the home screen and lock screen. New gestures give you more control over the home screen look as well. Lastly, the Muzei watch face for Wear OS can be used without the phone app. Muzei 3.0 is available now to download below.
