Over the years, Gboard (formerly Google Keyboard) has added a huge number of features. In the last few months alone we’ve seen GIF creation, floating keyboard, clipboard manager, and just recently, Google started tested the ability to adjust the speed of deleting words. They’ve been trying to make Gboard feel more personal. The latest feature makes things very personal.
“Minis” is a sticker pack that has been available for a little while in Gboard. It allows you to snap a selfie and create a personalized sticker based on yourself. Previously, there were only two sticker packs to choose from, but now there is a new one called “Emoji.” It puts your facial features into an emoji that matches the Android default style. You can still customize the look to get it just right.
As you may have expected, Google is doing this with machine learning algorithms. In my brief testing, it was pretty accurate in mimicking my features. The Gboard update with the new sticker pack is rolling out right now. Check it out and give your emoji a personalized flair. Keep in mind that these are not system emoji, they’re simply stickers, but they can be used in most messaging apps.
