Niagara Launcher is a minimalist launcher that integrates with your notifications

Customization is a big reason why so many people are attracted to the Android operating system. The home screen is something that some people look at dozens of times throughout the day, so making it as efficient and organized as possible can really improve their user experience. So it’s understandable why there are so many different custom launchers available in the Play Store as each of them have the ability to provide something unique to the user. This is where a new custom launcher called Niagara Launcher comes into play as it offers a minimalistic experience that also integrates with your notifications.

Created by XDA Feed Mod, Recognized Developer and Recognized Contributor, Maxr1998, the Niagara Launcher allows your applications to be laid out in a clutter-free list on the home screen that makes it so you can access all of them with one hand. These applications are always accessible thanks to a scroll bar which gives you access to every application with just one tap. Notifications are also important these days and it’s gotten to the point where some launchers have resorted to adding a gesture just so you can quickly pull down the notification shade.

Maxr1998 has taken this necessity into account with Niagara Launcher too as a notification summary can be read right on your home screen. Summaries are nice and all but the developer has even taken this a step further and allows you to read the full content of a notification with a simple swipe to the right. Once you have read that full notification you can then even, for example, write a quick reply directly from the home screen launcher. If your device is running Android 7.1 Nougat or higher then you’ll also notice that Niagara Launcher supports Android’s App Shortcuts as well.

Key Niagara Launcher Features

  • List based for easy access and a minimal look
  • You can open Apps in a quick way due to the always accessible scrollbar
  • Enhanced notification “dots”: Read summaries right on your home screen and swipe right to open them for every detail.
  • App shortcuts (Introduced in Android 7.1 – some of them are backward compatible)
  • Media Player integration (notification access needed)
  • Hide Apps to remove bloatware/preinstalled apps
  • Icon Pack support

While it is still considered to be a minimalistic launcher for Android, it even has some extras thrown in such as a media player and the ability to learn which apps you are using the most and places them in your favorites. Niagara Launcher has just launched today, September 6th, as an open beta and the developer invites everyone to check out some of the upcoming features that are currently being developed right now.
