Last week, we got our first look at the unannounced Google Home Hub. This is Google’s first entry in the category of “Smart Displays.” Lenovo made an Assistant-enabled smart display earlier this year and now Google is joining the party. Today, we’re getting a look at the Google Home Hub in a second color.
As with the previous Home devices, Google will offer the Home Hub in multiple colors. We saw the “Chalk” (white/grey) color last week; today we can see the “Charcoal” (black) color. The bezel on the front of the display is still white to match the Google Assistant UI. The Charcoal images also show us the side view of the device.
We can’t gather much more information from these images other than the fact that the display angle doesn’t appear to be adjustable. We already know the display is 7-inches and LCD. There’s a mute switch on the back if you want to turn off the microphones. 5GHz and 2.4GHz WiFi networks are supported. Ambient light sensors will help match the display brightness to the room. We can expect an array of far-field microphones as well.
The current rumored price is only $149, which is $50 cheaper than the 8-inch Lenovo model and only $20 more than the standard Google Home. It’s also a whopping $80 cheaper than the new Amazon Echo Show, which is Google’s biggest competitor. That’s a killer price. Look to learn more about the Google Home Hub at the Pixel 3 event.
