Phones without headphone jacks are still a divisive topic in the Android community. Like it or not, this is the future of smartphones. Google hopped on the trend last year with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Now, a few weeks ahead of the Pixel 3 event, Google has updated this controversial accessory.
Last year, Google offered a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle for the steep price of $20 and then dropped it to $9. The Pixel 2 did come with one dongle in the box, but if you wanted an extra one it was a nice option. The new USB-C to 3.5mm dongle is supposed to have 53% lower latency and 38% longer playback time than the original. It’s also a tiny bit smaller and shorter than last year’s model.
Google mentions the Pixel specifically when listing the improved features, but they also say “other devices running Android P or higher.” This dongle will almost certainly be the one included with the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, but other phones can use it as well. The price is $12, which is slightly more than the improved price last year, but still much better than $20. It’s available right now.
