Razer made headlines when it announced the acquisition of Android startup Nextbit in early 2017. The transition took a while, but the newly absorbed division soon began work on an Android smartphone that channeled Razer’s style and branding. The fruit of its labor — the Razer Phone — was officially announced last month, and since launch, it’s received mixed reviews from the community. But many of its issues were software-related, and Nextbit’s released a new over-the-air (OTA) update — MR2 — that addresses a number of key problem areas.
This OTA update is quite large (97MB), and the official changelog highlights some of the bigger tweaks in it. The camera, which was the subject of a lot of criticism, now captures photos with sharper shadows (as a result of improved shutter speed control), less noise, better color cast in high dynamic range (HDR) shooting modes, and faster performance. And the phone’s audio, another source of issues, is clearer and crisper — specifically during HD Audio calls and when Dolby audio features are enabled.
Here’s a full list of changes:

Finally, the Nextbit team says it’s been able to fix a auto-brightness luminosity bug, that it updated the phone’s Arrival theme icons to a dark style.
Alex Naidis, one of the lead developers for Paranoid Android and a BSP developer for Nextbit, says the changelog isn’t complete, but promises that plenty of other bug fixes and performance enhancements are in tow.
