Nokia and HMD Global have been hard at work bringing updates to their devices in recent months. Android Oreo hit the the Nokia 5 and the Nokia 8 after a weeks-long beta period, and now that the Nokia 6 is next in line to receive the upgrade, enthusiasts can enroll in Nokia’s Mobile Beta Labs program to get an early taste of it.

Starting today, Nokia 6 owners can install an early version of Android Oreo on devices — as long as they’re willing to put up with a few bugs, of course. Here’s how: Go here, fill out your IMEI and your network operator, and wait patiently– you’ll receive the update via an over-the-air update. If you have trouble, navigate to Settings > System > System update and make sure that you’ve received the latest December security patch. From the same webpage, you can remove your device from the beta channel and return to the stable channel.
Nokia says there was a bug that affected users in India, but that it’s been fixed.
Android Oreo on the Nokia 6 is a worthwhile upgrade. It nets you system-wide password auto-fill, Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, user interface (UI) enhancements, performance improvements, and bug fixes, according to HMD Global and Nokia. Users who encounter any problems are encouraged to report bugs via the Feedback application preinstalled in the upgrade.
If you’re interested in trying out the update, go give it a try and let us know what you think!
