Xiaomi Mi 11 series: Here’s everything you need to know about Xiaomi’s 2021 flagship lineup!

A day before Qualcomm officially unveiled the Snapdragon 888, the company partially detailed the flagship SoC and confirmed the names of 14 OEMs who would launch devices with the new processor. Xiaomi was one of the manufacturers on the list, and the company teased the Mi 11 just a day after Qualcomm’s launch event. A few weeks down the line, the Chinese OEM revealed that it would launch the Mi 11 before the end of the year, making it the first device to feature Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip.

As promised, Xiaomi lifted the covers off the Mi 11 in China on December 28th, giving us our first look at its design, specifications, and unique features. A few months after launching the vanilla Mi 11, Xiaomi added five more devices to the Mi 11 lineup — the Mi 11 Lite 4G, Mi 11 Lite 5G, Mi 11i, Mi 11 Pro, and the Mi 11 Ultra. Here’s everything you need to know about Xiaomi’s extensive Mi 11 lineup.

Mi 11 series — Regular, Lite, Pro, Ultra, and other variants

Xiaomi debuted the Mi 11 series with the launch of the vanilla model late last year. The company then added five new devices to the lineup in March of this year. The Mi 11 lineup now consists of six devices, including the affordable Mi 11 Lite 4G and Mi 11 Lite 5G, the mid-range Mi 11i, the flagship Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro, and the top-of-the-line Mi 11 Ultra.

The Mi 11 Lite devices pack Snapdragon 700-series SoCs, and they offer a few premium features at a rather affordable price point. The mid-range Mi 11i is a rebranded version of the Redmi K40 Pro+ that launched in China earlier this year. It features Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 chip, and therefore it falls in the flagship killer territory. The device offers a great selection of premium features at a relatively affordable price point.

The Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro are full-fledged flagships that not only feature the Snapdragon 888 chip but also offer all the features that you’d expect to see on a modern-day Android flagship. Finally, the top-of-the-line Mi 11 Ultra is Xiaomi’s answer to Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra, and it features the best hardware money can buy. It offers an outstanding camera system and a unique secondary display.

As seen in previous leaks, Xiaomi has also launched two Redmi K40 series devices under the Mi 11 umbrella in India. These phones, called the Xiaomi Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro, are exactly the same as the Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro+ that launched in China earlier this year.

Display

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 4G/Mi 11 Lite 5G

The affordable Mi 11 Lite duo pack smaller 6.55-inch FHD+ AMOLED displays with no curved edges. The peak refresh rate on both devices is limited to 90Hz, and the touch sampling rate is limited to 240Hz. The phones also lack an in-display fingerprint scanner, and they have a significantly lower peak brightness.

The displays on the Mi 11 Lite 4G and the Mi 11 Lite 5G offer HDR10 and HDR10+ support, respectively. The panels are also 10-bit capable, and they cover 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. They also offer TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification.

Xiaomi Mi 11i

The Mi 11i features a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel that refreshes at 120Hz and has a touch sampling rate of 360Hz. It offers a typical brightness of 900nits and a peak brightness of 1300nits. Much like the display on the vanilla Mi 11, the Mi 11i’s panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, supports HDR10+, and has a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1.

Xiaomi Mi 11

As Ben pointed out in our hands-on preview of the Xiaomi Mi 11, the device features a gorgeous 6.81-inch QHD+ AMOLED display that refreshes at 120Hz and curves on all four sides. The display offers a pixel density of 515 PPI, it has a hole-punch cutout in the top left corner for the selfie camera and an in-display fingerprint scanner that doubles up as a heart rate sensor.

Xiaomi Mi 11 quad-curved display horizontal

While the 120Hz panel on the phone doesn’t support adaptive refresh rate like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it can switch between 30Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz, depending on the content. The panel is 10-bit capable, offers HR10+ support, has a touch sampling rate of 480Hz, and a peak brightness of 1500nits. The phone also packs a couple of cool software features, like Super Resolution, that can enhance your viewing experience even further.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro/Mi 11 Ultra

The top-of-the-line Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra feature the same 6.81-inch QHD+ quad-curved AMOLED panel as the vanilla Mi 11. Both devices offer a peak refresh rate of 120Hz with AdaptiveSync (30/60/90/120Hz) support, a 480Hz touch sampling rate, and HDR10+ support. Both phones also feature an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro and UItra display with colorful wallpaper on black background

The panels on both phones are also Dolby Vision certified, and they offer a peak brightness of 1700nits. The only difference between the two is that the Mi 11 Ultra features a secondary 1.1-inch AMOLED display on the back panel. This display has a resolution of 126 x 294 pixels and a peak brightness of 450nits. It offers an always-on display feature, and it’s primarily meant for notification alerts and selfie previews.

In terms of software enhancements, the Mi 11 Pro and the Mi 11 Ultra feature MEMC support, Super Resolution, and more.

Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro

The Mi 11X and the Mi 11X Pro feature flat 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED panels with a resolution of 2400 x 1800 pixels. The panels refresh at 120Hz and offer a 360Hz touch sampling rate. Both phones offer a peak brightness of 1300nits and a typical brightness of 900nits. The True Tone panels also boast of a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, HDR10+ support, and MEMC support.

Design

The entire lineup follows the same design language, with the camera island being the only major distinguishing factor. However, there are some notable changes that differentiate the affordable devices in the lineup from the premium ones, like the curved/flat displays, the build quality, and the back panel finishes.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 4G color variants on white background

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 4G

The affordable Mi 11 Lite duo features the smallest camera island out of the lot. They feature a flat display and each come in three striking colorways. The Mi 11 Lite 4G is available in Boba Black, Bubblegum Blue, and Peach Pink, while the Mi 11 Lite 5G is available in Truffle Black, Mint Green, and Citrus Yellow.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G

The devices are also noticeably slimmer than other phones in the lineup, measuring just 6.81mm at its thickest. Since the phones pack the smallest displays out of the lot, they also have a comparatively smaller footprint.

The Mi 11i has a larger rectangular camera island, but it has a flat display like the Mi 11 Lite duo. However, unlike all the other devices in the lineup, the Mi 11i sports a centered hole-punch cutout on the display for the selfie camera. The device also sports a slightly more premium back panel finish that comes in three colorways — Cosmic Black, Frosty White, and Celestial Silver.

All three of these affordable phones feature a similar button and port placement, with a USB Type-C port at the bottom, power and volume buttons on the right edge, dual speakers, and an IR blaster. The phones also sport a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, unlike the premium devices.

The vanilla phone’s camera island looks a lot like the one on the Mi 11 Lite duo and it packs the same number of camera sensors. However, the phone is a bit chunkier. Despite the added thickness, the device looks and feels more premium than the Mi 11 Lite or the Mi 11i, as it has a quad-curved display that, combined with the curved back panel, makes it a bit more comfortable to grip.

Vegan leather variants of the Xiaomi Mi 11

Xiaomi Mi 11

Button and port placement remain the same, with the device featuring a dual speaker setup, a USB Type-C port at the bottom, power and volume buttons on the right edge, and an IR blast at the top. The device comes in three frosted matte glass colorways — Midnight Gray, Horizon Blue, and Frost White — and two vegan leather finishes — Lilac Purple and Honey Beige. Sadly, the vegan leather variants are limited to the Chinese market.

The Mi 11 Pro also has the same squircle-shaped camera island with three camera sensors. But its dual-tone LED flash is located outside the camera island, unlike the one on the vanilla Mi 11. Other than that, the Mi 11 Pro looks the same as the regular Mi 11 and it has the same button/port placement. The device comes in three colorways — Black, Green, and Purple.

The camera island on the Mi 11 Ultra is one of its most striking design features. It’s significantly larger than the ones on the other devices on the lineup and it spans across the entire width of the phone. That’s because it houses a tiny secondary display along with three camera sensors. The Xiaomi branding on the Mi 11 Ultra is also different.

Furthermore, the Mi 11 Ultra features a ceramic back, unlike the other devices in the lineup, which comes in two colorways — Ceramic Black and Ceramic White. Due to the larger camera island on the ceramic back panel, the device is significantly heavier than the other phones in the lineup, weighing a hefty 234g.

Although the Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro are rebranded Redmi K40 series devices, they follow the same design language as the other devices in the Mi 11 lineup.

Both phones feature a rectangular camera module on the back that has curved edges, a curved back panel that offers a premium in-hand feel, and a hole-punch display over on the front. The phones feature Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the right edge, and a volume rocker right above it.

The phones sport Xiaomi branding on the back panel, instead of the Redmi branding found on their K40 series counterparts, and they’re both available in three colorways — Celestial Silver, Lunar White, and Cosmic Black.

SoC, RAM, and Storage

While the Mi 11 Lite 4G and the Mi 11 Lite 5G are pretty much the same on the outside, they feature different SoCs and they come in different RAM/storage configurations. The 4G model is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 732G chip, which consists of one ARM Cortex-A76 prime core clocked at 2.3GHz, one ARM Cortex-A76 performance core clocked at 2.2GHz, and six ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It features an Adreno 618 GPU, and it comes in two RAM/storage configurations — 6GB LPDDR4x RAM + 64GB UFS 2.2 storage and 6GB LPDDR4x RAM + 128GB UFS 2.2 storage.

The Mi 11 Lite 5G packs the 5G capable Snapdragon 780G chip, which is a new 5nm chip that features one ARM Cortex-A78 prime core clocked at 2.4GHz, three ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.2GHz, and four ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at 1.9GHz. It packs the Adreno 642 GPU, and it comes in two RAM/storage configurations — 6GB LPDDR4x RAM + 128GB UFS 2.2 storage and 8GB LPDDR4x RAM + 128GB UFS 2.2 storage.

Unlike the Mi 11 Lite duo, the Mi 11i features Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 chip. It packs one ARM Cortex-X1 prime core clocked at 2.84GHz, three ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz, and four ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The SoC packs the Adreno 660 GPU and it’s paired with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The regular Mi 11, the Mi 11 Pro, and the Mi 11 Ultra all feature the same Snapdragon 888 chip. However, they come in different RAM/storage configurations. The vanilla Mi 11 comes with either 8GB or 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Mi 11 Pro also features either 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, which is paired with 128GB or 256GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage. The top-of-the-line Mi 11 Ultra also packs 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, coupled with either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The Xiaomi Mi 11X packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 chip, which is essentially a rehashed Snapdragon 865. It packs one Kryo 585 prime core clocked at 3.2GHz, three Kryo 585 performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz, and four Kryo 386 efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The SoC is paired with either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Mi 11X Pro, on the other hand, packs Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 chip. It comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Cameras

Both variants of the Mi 11 Lite feature the same triple camera setup on the back, consisting of a 64MP f/1.79 primary camera, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle camera, and a 5MP f/2.4 telemacro camera. The rear-facing camera system on both phones also includes a single-tone flash. Over on the front however, the two phones feature different selfie shooters. The 4G variant packs a 16MP selfie camera, while the 5G variant features a 20MP sensor.
