ASUS recently took the wraps off its latest flagship smartphones: the ASUS ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro (review). Both phones pack top-of-the-line hardware, including a 6.67-inch notchless, hole-punch-less AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 865 SoC, up to 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, a 64MP IMX686 primary camera in a motorized Flip Camera module, and a 5,000 mAh battery. The devices recently went up on sale in ASUS’s home country of Taiwan and have now launched in Europe, and a new software update is already being pushed to greet new buyers. The update takes care of early bugs and improves camera performance.
The update carries software version 29.12.18.10 and has begun rolling out to the ASUS ZenFone 7/7 Pro units in batches.
Most notably, the update addresses the touch freeze issue and also fixes a bug which caused occasional system reboots. Further, we see improvements to DC dimming, Google Lens integration with the stock camera app, improved photo quality in night mode, the addition of a Dual-band Wi-Fi network feature, and the ability to selectively mute a single app when multiple foreground apps make sounds.
The complete changelog for the software version 29.12.18.10 is posted below:
- Improved System/touch freeze problem.
- Fixed the occasional system restart issue.
- Improve occasional DC dimming flicker and screen brightness adjustment.
- Enabled Google Lens on Asus Camera.
- Improved the photo quality of Camera night mode
- Improved the performance for camera noise
- Added group alarm feature.
- Added Dual-band Wi-Fi network feature.
- Allowed to mute a single app when multiple foreground apps make sounds.
Since this is a phased rollout, it will likely take some time for the update to reach all devices. If you haven’t received the OTA notification on your ZenFone 7/7 Pro yet, you can go to Settings > System and tap on the “System Updates” button to see if there’s any new firmware available for your phone.
