Google Photos v4.45 rolled out late last month and a teardown of the app revealed that Google was testing a new feature that would allow users to order photo prints in the Memories view. The teardown also revealed that the company is working on some premium editing features for the app for Google One subscribers. Now, Google has started rolling out Google Photos v4.46 and a teardown of the latest APK reveals a few more strings of code that hint at the premium editing feature, along with a new feature that will show photo creations in the Memories view.
Creations in Memories view
Google introduced the Memories view in Google Photos back in November last year to help users rediscover old photos. Strings of code spotted in the latest teardown reveal that Google will now also let users choose if they want to see Creations in the Memories view. For the unaware, Creations are photos that the app automatically generates using your images. These include things like collages, color pop photos, stylized photos, and more. The following strings of code suggest that Google may now let users decide if they wish to see these Creations in the Memories view and also give them the option to choose exactly which type of Creations are displayed.
<string name="photos_memories_settings_creation_animations_title">Animations</string>
<string name="photos_memories_settings_creation_collages_title">Collages</string>
<string name="photos_memories_settings_creation_color_pops_title">Color pops</string>

Premium photo editing features
In the previous teardown, we spotted a string that suggested that Google was testing new editing features in the app that would be reserved for Google One subscribers. We’ve now found more evidence of the premium editing features in Google Photos 4.46 which suggests that the Photos app will want to “upsell” you on a photo editor tool. Other strings where “upsell” is used all relate to getting users to buy more Google One storage.
<string name="photos_photoeditor_upsell_disclaimer">disclaimer</string>
<string name="photos_photoeditor_upsell_primary_button" />
<string name="photos_photoeditor_upsell_title">title</string>
Other than these upcoming features, we’ve also spotted a new UI for the Photos app in the latest update. The new UI is already available for some users and, as you can see in the attached screenshot, the Memories view now has a more prominent position right at the top of the app. In the Memories view settings, you currently get the option to hide specific people and pets from the Memories view.
