[Update: November 13] Motorola’s foldable Razr phone may be announced before year’s end

Update 10/18/19 @ 8:25 AM ET: Motorola has sent out invites for an event on November 13, 2019. Scroll to the bottom for more details. The article as published on September 27, 2019, is preserved as below.

While Samsung’s saga with the Galaxy Fold appears to finally be coming to an end, there are other foldables destined to be released soon. The Huawei Mate X is the other big name, but it has been delayed a couple of times as well. The other foldable device that we’ve heard about a few times is the rumored Motorola Razr reboot, and a new report claims an announcement is coming this year still.

Earlier this year, reports suggested Motorola would launch its foldable phone this summer. That time has come and gone without a peep from Motorola, but a new report claims it’s still coming this year. This information comes from a person close to the company speaking to CNET. It’s unlikely that the device will actually be sold this year, but we should at least see the device before 2020.

Motorola has already confirmed that they are working on a foldable smartphone. The “Razr” name was also confirmed by a Bluetooth certification. We exclusively reported on the specifications of the device, which include the sdm670 platform (meaning either the Snapdragon 670 or the Snapdragon 710), 4/6GB of RAM, and a tall 6.2-inch OLED display that folds vertically. There is also a secondary display that is only 600 x 800 in resolution.

Software is another really important part of foldable phones. We exclusively reported on some of the software features that Motorola will include on the Razr. When the phone is opened, the secondary display may act as a trackpad, the secondary display may be able to have Quick Tiles when the phone is closed, and more. The Razr foldable phone is very interesting and we can’t wait to see it. Hopefully, this report is true and we’ll see it soon.

Update: Motorola event scheduled for November 13

Motorola has sent out invitations for an event in Los Angeles on November 13, 2019. The event invite features a gif showing a device being folded and unfolded, with further subtext reading “An original unlike any other” and “You’re going to flip”. All of this points towards the launch of the Motorola Razr foldable smartphone.
