Last month, Oppo made the headlines when it unveiled its new fast charging technology which can fully charge a smartphone just under 30 minutes. At the time the Chinese smartphone maker hinted the new charging protocol would be making its debut in the next Oppo smartphone. Today, the company is taking the wraps off the Oppo Reno Ace, the first Oppo phone to feature its new 65W charging tech alongside a bunch of other high-end specifications.

Although the 65W fast charging technology forms the main highlight of the device, the Oppo Reno Ace also packs some powerful hardware under-the-hood. The device features a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with a 90Hz of refresh rate, a first for Oppo and a waterdrop notch. Oppo says the display is capable of reaching 700 nits of brightness outdoors and also features a stroboscopic dimming mode for low brightness.
The device packs four cameras on the back. The primary shooter is a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, followed by an 8MP wide-angle lens with a 116-degree field of view, a 13MP telephoto sensor with 5X hybrid zoom, and a 2MP monochrome shooter. As for selfies, there’s a 16MP shooter on the front.
The device is fueled by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core chipset coupled with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.0 flash storage. Oppo also tells us they have added a composite carbon fiber layer between the chipset and the vapor cooling pipe which, according to the company, provides three times improved heat conductivity when compared to the standard silicone grease most device implement.
To power all this up, there’s a 4000mAh battery with support for Oppo’s crazy 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 charging technology. Oppo claims it can charge a 4000mAh battery from 0 to 27% in just 5 minutes – enough to make 2 hours of calls. Meanwhile, it takes only 30 minutes to fully charge the device from the dead state. The device also supports USB-PD and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge standards, so you are not entirely at the mercy of proprietary fast charging technology.
On the software front, the device runs ColorsOS 6.1 based on Android 10 and comes with Oppo’s Game Boost 2.0 gaming mode for a better gaming experience. Other specifications of the Oppo Reno Ace include an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, and dual stereo speakers.
OPPO Reno Ace: Gundam Edition
Oppo is also launching a special edition in the form of the Reno Ace Gundam Edition to mark the 40th anniversary of the Gundam series, a popular Japanese science-fiction franchise. Only 30,000 units of the Gundam Edition will be produced, the company said. The device looks really cool as you can see for yourself in the photos attached below.
