OnePlus rolls out first Android 10-based OxygenOS beta for the OnePlus 6/6T

After rolling out stable Android 10 to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro last month, OnePlus is now bringing the latest version of Android to its 2018 flagship smartphones. Last week, OnePlus shared its Android 10 update roadmap that included the OnePlus 6/6T and OnePlus 5/5T, promising that an OxygenOS Open Beta for the OnePlus 6 series would go live this month. Keeping to its word, the company today announced the first Android 10 beta for both devices.

The full changelog for OxygenOS Open Beta 1 (Android 10) is as follows:

• System
  • Upgraded to Android 10
  • Brand new UI design
  • Enhanced location permissions for privacy
  • New customization feature in Settings allowing you to choose icon shapes to be displayed in the Quick Settings

• Full Screen Gestures
  • Added inward swipes from the left or right edge of the screen to go back
  • Added a bottom navigation bar to allow switching left or right for recent apps
• Game Space
  • New Game Space feature now joins all your favorite games in one place for easier access and better gaming experience
• Smart display
  • Intelligent info based on specific times, locations and events for Ambient Display (Settings – Display – Ambient Display – Smart Display)
• Message
  • Now possible to block spam by keywords for Message (Messages – Spam – Settings -Blocking settings)

You can share your feedback on the software and report bugs via the Community App to help the software development team iron out any major issues in the final release. In case you change your mind and want to go back to the Android Pie beta channel, you can download the rollback package from here for your respective model.

The Android 10 beta update is 1.7GB in size so make sure you’re connected to a WiFi network before downloading it. OnePlus also recommends you have at least 30% of battery left and 3GB of storage available on your device before you proceed to install the software update. You will not have to wipe any data if you are upgrading from an earlier version – either stable or beta – to this latest release, however, if you plan on rolling back to an older version, you will have to wipe data. If you make a backup using the built-in backup tool, you won’t have to worry about losing any data.

As per OnePlus’s update schedule, a stable version of Android 10 will arrive in November so we should see some more Open Betas in the coming weeks leading up to the final release. If you’re already on the beta channel, you should receive the OTA soon. Alternatively, you can also grab the OTA package from the links attached below and manually flash the update.
