Google Calendar 6.0.56 continues work on Google Tasks integration with recurring tasks and syncing

Ever since Google launched a standalone app for Google Tasks, a number of users have requested seamless Tasks integration in Google Calendar. The company has reportedly been working on the integration for the last few months and a teardown of the latest update for Google Calendar further indicates that the Tasks integration is well underway.

An APK teardown can often predict features that may arrive in a future update of an application, but it is possible that any of the features we mention here may not make it in a future release. This is because these features are currently unimplemented in the live build and may be pulled at any time by the developers in a future build.

Strings of code discovered in Google Calendar version 6.0.56 clearly highlight the upcoming functionality. Once it’s live, the Google Tasks integration will allow users to create tasks right from within the Google Calendar app, without needing to download the standalone Tasks app. The code mentions a new task button, prompts to create repeating tasks, save recurring tasks, task descriptions, a task cancellation message, and support for syncing among other things. Even though Tasks integration isn’t live yet, it seems to be getting closer to launch.

Here are all new Tasks-related strings added to version 6.0.56 of the Calendar app:

  • <string name=”accessibility_speeddial_task”>Task button</string>
  •  <string name=”collapse_task_sheet”>Collapse task sheet</string
  • <string name=”creating_repeating_task”>Creating repeating task…</string>
  • <string name=”creating_repeating_task_no_connection”>”No connection. The repeating task will be created when you’re online.”</string>
  • <string name=”edit_scope_selection_title_task”>Save recurring task</string>
  • <string name=”error_no_task_account”>No accounts that support tasks found on the device.</string>
  • <string name=”error_repeating_task_start_time_in_past”>Start time of a repeating task cannot be in the past.</string>
  • <string name=”expand_task_sheet”>Expand task sheet</string
  • <string name=”task”>Task</string>
  • <string name=”task_creation_cancellation_message”>Discard this task?</string>
  • <string name=”task_description_hint”>Add details</string>
  • <string name=”task_edit_cancellation_message”>Discard changes to this task?</string>
  • <string name=”task_no_title_placeholder”>(Task — no title)</string>
  • <string name=”task_notification_channel”>Task notifications</string>
