The Huawei Mate 30 is set to be announced as early as September 19th, according to a report from Russian news site hi-tech.mail.ru. The report comes from a comment made by Dr. Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei Consumer Business Software, who spoke about EMUI 10 and the upcoming Kirin 990, who said that the device will be first shown on September 19th. I spoke to a friend of mine who is fluent in Russian to confirm the translation.
Interestingly, we haven’t really caught any leaks about the Huawei Mate 30 recently, despite its alleged close release date. We know that the Mate 30 will launch with EMUI 10 and Android Q, although that’s about it. EMUI 10 is nearly ready already and is expected to roll out to Huawei P30 device owners around the start of September. There’s a possibility of a Mate 30 Lite, though we know even less about that at this stage. While we don’t really know anything specific to the Huawei Mate 30, we can expect to see one of the best camera setups on the market, along with a more efficient and more powerful chipset.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the Huawei Mate 30, as we’re expecting it to be an excellent device. With the company’s standing at the moment, however, the launch may be difficult. We’ve seen Huawei recently added back to Google’s Enterprise Recommended list, which is certainly a good sign for the future going forward. The Kirin 990 was already designed at this stage and ready to go, so that wasn’t an issue. Even if you don’t like Huawei as a company, it’s hard to deny that their existence in the smartphone space is very important.

The teaser for the Mate 30 series says “we’re going full circle“, which ties in with a previous leak that suggested that the Mate 30 will come with a circular rear camera module with up to four cameras housed within. The phone was also spotted with a wide notch, which suggests multiple front cameras or sensors for added functionalities. The Mate 30 series is also expected to come with 25W fast wireless charging and the Kirin 990 chipset. We’re excited to see how Huawei works around its current challenges and what innovations it brings around in the camera department.
