Ever since the OnePlus 3, OnePlus has launched two flagships in a year: one in the first half of the year, coming in with the best upgrades across hardware and software, often with a new design; and a second in the second half of the year, featuring several incremental updates to compete better against the newer launches from the competition. With the launch of the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro, the OEM switched up its strategy and defied its own tradition, targeting two different price points and consequently different needs. Many wrote off the need to launch a second device later in the year, but OnePlus is determined to offer an updated and practical package to its users. Meet the new OnePlus 7T, bringing over some of the best upgrades from the OnePlus 7 Pro to a lower price point, and then adding in some of its own.

OnePlus 7T Design
The OnePlus 7T is unmistakeably a OnePlus phone, borrowing the familiar design that we have seen across recent OnePlus releases, but it has its own standout features. As the name would imply, the OnePlus 7T is an upgrade over the regular OnePlus 7 (non-Pro variant), but there is still plenty that sets this phone apart. The OnePlus 7T is relatively longer and narrower than the OnePlus 7, thanks to the slight bump up to a 20:9 aspect ratio. The display diagonal has also grown, now coming in at a 6.55″ but it is still an FHD+ display. The OnePlus 7T borrows the higher 90Hz refresh rate from the OnePlus 7 Pro, while also bringing along HDR10+ certification.
You still retain the waterdrop notch on the front — no fancy pop-up camera mechanism for this phone yet. The in-display fingerprint sensor remains present on the front. The display is flat and does not have curves on the side edges, which is a good choice from the perspective of practical use.
The biggest change in the design of the OnePlus 7T is on the back. As past renders have revealed, and as OnePlus themselves confirmed, the OnePlus 7T adopts a circular camera module with the triple rear cameras arranged horizontally within this module. The design is reminiscent of several Motorola devices and other smartphones, but it is certainly a first for this company. The camera module does protrude on the back, and overall, the design takes some getting used to. OnePlus is also opting to go for two different colors, Frosted Silver and Glacier Blue, with the same matte-frosted glass finish as they have on their previous devices.
Hardware
The OnePlus 7T gets an incremental upgrade on the inside, coming in with the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC, that comes with a clock speed bump up to 2.96GHz on the lone “Prime” Kryo 485 core, and better GPU performance than the Snapdragon 855. Both the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro provided excellent real-life performance across all practical scenarios, so the hardware upgrade on this end is likely to raise the bar even higher.
The OnePlus 7T comes in a single RAM variant this time, with the company deciding to stick with 8GB LPDDR4X and not offering a 6GB or 12GB option. You do get a choice on the internal storage, choosing to opt for either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.0 Dual-Lane storage. Choose wisely, for expandable storage continues to be absent from flagship OnePlus devices.
The battery on the 7T gets a small bump up to 3,800 mAh. OnePlus is blessing the OnePlus 7T with Warp Charge 30T with 30W wired quick charging, promising a full charge within an hour, which is 23% quicker than Warp Charge 30. All of this is done while the phone maintains its cool, even while gaming and charging simultaneously.
The OnePlus 7T also gets an updated vibration motor this time, so your experience should be at par with that on the OnePlus 7 Pro now.
OnePlus 7T Camera
The OnePlus 7T gets a new camera setup, now with three different cameras. Primary camera responsibilities are handled by the 48MP Sony IMX586, which we see on the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro too. The primary shooter is complemented by the 16MP camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto shooter with 2X Optical Zoom. Aside from the newer hardware, OnePlus is also adding in newer software features. The new Macro Mode allows users to shoot at a distance as close as 2.5cm, while Nightscape now allows users to click photos with the wide-angle camera too. Further, video recording is now available across all the three cameras interchangeably, out-of-the-box. The front camera is a 16MP Sony IMX471 shooter.
Great hardware is nothing without software though, which is why OnePlus is including its UltraShot Engine. It supports HDR+ and Super Resolution.
Software
The OnePlus 7T will be one of the first devices to be available with Android 10 out-of-the-box, underneath OnePlus’s OxygenOS 10.0 UX. This new version of OxygenOS and Android comes along with plenty of customization features, Smart Display in Ambient Settings, better privacy management, two modes for notifications, Game Space, and more. You also get other OxygenOS features such as Zen Mode and a native screen recording app.
