September 2019 security patches are out for Google Pixel phones and Essential Phone

Hot on the heels of stable Android 10 being released, Google is also sending out the September 2019 security patches. For those who are updating their Pixel device (or Essential Phone) to Android 10, you will already be getting the latest Android security patches.

Google usually lists a few noteworthy “functional patches” with each monthly Android security update, but for this month they simply linked to the Android 10 announcement post. The bulletin does list over 100 security fixes that were made this month. The patches are rolling out to the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel XL, and Essential Phone.

The OTA files and factory images for the Pixel devices can be found at the links below. Find the Android security files for your device and click “Link” to start the download. This will bring your device up to Android 10 in the process. To flash the update manually without losing all of your data, follow the steps outlined in this tutorial. The OTA Android security update for the Essential Phone has just started rolling out.
