Samsung has been working on expanding its 5G device portfolio. A post from Chinese telecom operator China Unicom had confirmed that a Samsung Galaxy A90 5G smartphone was in the works, while a separate report had suggested 25W fast charging support for this 5G phone. Today, Samsung has officially announced the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G, complete with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and Samsung DeX support.

The top highlight feature of the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G is of course, its 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) Sub6 support. This makes it the first smartphone from Samsung’s Galaxy A-series to support 5G, helping Samsung’s 5G proliferation efforts by spreading it beyond just flagships. While Samsung has not mentioned pricing in its press release, devices in the A-series are usually priced at a lower price point compared to devices in the S-series and Note-series, though 5G brings with itself some added costs that should make this one of the pricier A-series devices to be launched.
To counter the increased costs of the 5G modem, the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G opts for a more conservative set of specifications that we have now grown familiar with. On the inside, we find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, Qualcomm’s flagship SoC that should offer no one any chances to complain about performance. The phone comes with 6GB and 8GB RAM variants, with 128GB of internal storage; oddly though, Samsung mentions that only the 6GB RAM variant can have its storage expanded through a microSD card slot.
For its front, the phone sports a 6.7″ FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a waterdrop Infinity-U notch. The back of the phone is glass and has a geometric pattern on the back that appears to split the phone into top and bottom halves. The phone will be available in two color options — Black, and White.
Another highlight of the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G is the ability to use Samsung DeX with this phone, another first for the Galaxy A-series.
The Galaxy A90 5G will be available for purchase in South Korea from September 4, 2019, and will expand to additional markets thereafter. We hope to learn about the global pricing of the phone soon enough.
