Google Play Services for AR, formerly called ARCore, is an app that provides an SDK for developers to build augmented reality experiences into their apps. We’ve seen many apps on Google Play built using this SDK, from AR shopping apps to AR measurement apps to AR navigation apps. The more features that are built using this SDK, the more important it is for devices to support it. Google works with OEMs to calibrate the cameras and sensors on every individual device to ensure users will have optimal augmented reality experiences. When a device gets support for Google’s AR service, it gets added to Google’s “ARCore supported devices” list. Last week, 3 new Samsung devices were added to the list, but we also know that a bunch of other devices are also about to gain official support for ARCore.
Devices that are listed on Google’s webpage can download Google Play Services for AR from the Google Play Store, if it hasn’t automatically installed itself already. Devices that are supported by Google’s AR service (as in, they have the necessary calibrations done and are recognized by the app) but aren’t listed on Google’s webpage can’t download the app from the Play Store, but it’s still possible to sideload Play Services for AR and then play around with apps that use the service. Devices that are neither listed online nor have the proper calibrations will face an error if the user tries to run any app that uses Play Services for AR.
Google officially lists the Samsung Galaxy A50s, Samsung Galaxy A90 5G, and Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 as supporting Play Services for AR, so you can download and install any app that relies on the AR service without any issues. However, the latest Play Services for AR APK, version 1.12, which is now available on APKMirror, and it now contains the proper calibrations for the following smartphones:
- ASUS ROG Phone II
- Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro
- Sony Xperia 5
- Realme 5
- Realme 5 Pro
- Samsung Galaxy A30s
- Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro (Wi-Fi and LTE)
- OPPO K3
I confirmed on my own ROG Phone II that sideloading Google Play Services for AR and an app that uses the service, such as Just a Line, now works whereas it didn’t work on the previous APK. I also asked two Redmi K20 Pro owners to confirm that the same works on their device.

Thus, although these devices haven’t yet been officially added to Google’s list of ARCore supported devices, they should soon gain official support once Google whitelists them on the Play Store. We’ll inform you when Google updates the list to include these devices.
