Realme has a vast portfolio with devices catering to different price brackets in the entry-level, affordable, and mid-range segments of the smartphone markets in India as well as several other countries in Southeast Asia. Realme has maintained its streak of launching at least one new smartphone in India almost every month to aggressively take on its fiercest competitor in India – Xiaomi. In late August Realme launched the Realme 5 and the 5 Pro (review) – its first quad-camera smartphones as the successors to the Realme 3 and the Realme 3 Pro respectively. Today, Realme is launching the first 64MP camera smartphone in India, the Realme XT, along with Realme Buds wireless Bluetooth earbuds, and the Realme Power bank.
With the design of the Realme XT, the company has taken another leap and introduced a glass back – a first for the brand. Under this layer of glass is a hyperbola shaped pattern, which shifts shape and colors with the angle of the falling light. The major highlight of the smartphone is its quad-camera setup, in while all but the primary setup are same as the Realme 5 Pro. The primary camera, 64MP, is a Samsung ISOCELL GW1 sensor which is paired to an f/1.8 aperture. Much before the launch, Realme let us experience the pre-production variant of the Realme XT and the results turned out to be far better than the 48MP camera on the Realme 5 Pro.
The auxiliary cameras include an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there’s a 16MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 lens.
On the front, the Realme XT comes with a Super AMOLED display with an under-display fingerprint scanner. While this panel is the same as the Realme X (review), there’s a waterdrop notch on the top instead of the pop-up camera. This is because the Realme XT is not a successor or an upgrade to the Realme X. The company also says that the fingerprint scanner is slightly bigger.
Internally, the Realme XT is fairly similar to the 5 Pro; there’s a Snapdragon 712 powering the device with options up to 8GB RAM. Users will get the option to choose between 64GB and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. The smartphone gets a 4,000mAh battery and supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging at 20W.
The Realme XT runs ColorOS 6.0.1 which comes with a dark mode, the option to change system fonts, and an app clone feature. The Android skin runs on Android 9 Pie but we’ve not heard anything about the Android 10 update yet.
