[Update: August 9th] Android Q isn’t even out of beta, but Huawei is ready to show off EMUI 10 next month

Update (8/6/19 @ 9:45 AM ET): Huawei has officially confirmed EMUI 10 will be shown off on August 9th.

We’re still a few months away from Android Q getting a dessert nickname and a final release. Android Q Beta 5 was released earlier this week as the first of 2 release candidate builds. OEMs are assuredly already working on Android Q and Huawei is ready to show off their work with EMUI 10 next month.

For those unfamiliar with Huawei’s EMUI software, EMUI 10 is based on Android Q. We published the first look at this software on the Huawei P30 Pro last month, so we’ve known it’s in the works. Huawei has shared the schedule for its annual Developer Conference, which is taking place on August 9th. On the schedule of events is a talk titled “Linking the future of the world – Huawei EMUI 10.0 released.”

As mentioned, Android Q will not be finalized until later this Fall. Android Q Beta 6 will be the last release candidate build. So it would be surprising if EMUI 10.0 was “released” next month. This is more than likely just a demo of the software, which is still impressive. OEMs typically don’t show off their next software versions before Google makes them official.

Check out our hands-on with an early build on EMUI 10.o below. By the looks of it, we’ll be seeing a lot more next month.

Note: Huawei/Honor has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloaders can’t be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
