[Update: Astro White variant launched] Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro goes on open sale in India as Xiaomi retains top spot in market

Update 08/06/19, 03:15 AM EST: Xiaomi India has launched a new white color variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro and Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S. The original article from August 1, 2019 is preserved as below.

Xiaomi has had an incredible run in the Indian market over the past few years. Certain recent pricing-related controversies aside, the Chinese company has performed very well in the Indian market, managing to clinch the top spot for the eighth consecutive quarter with a 31% market share and 10.3 Million smartphones shipped in Q2 2019. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 series itself has contributed to 5.5 Million sales over five months for Xiaomi. As a mark of celebration, and because the company has reached an equilibrium between demand and supply, Xiaomi has now dropped the flash sales model for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro starting today.

From today onwards, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro will be available for purchase any time through open sales across online channels like Mi.com and Flipkart, and offline channels like Mi Home, Mi Studio and Mi Preferred Partner stores. The open sale extends to all RAM and storage configurations for the device: 4GB+64GB for ₹13,999 (~$203); 6GB+64GB for ₹15,999 (~$232); and 6GB+128GB for ₹16,999 (~$246).

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro XDA Forums

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro continues to be one of the best purchases available in the early mid-range in India, offering itself as a great hardware package at an aggressive price point. The Redmi Note 7 Pro has also been hailed by us as the true successor to the legacy of the legendary Redmi Note 3, as it offers one of the most competitive and all-round packages in its segment.

The only difference this year is the existence of decent competitors, such as the Realme 3 Pro, which have begun encroaching upon Xiaomi’s territory. Still, Xiaomi’s lead in the market is very large, and the competition will still take quite some time to dethrone the company from the top spot. For context, Oppo, which ranks in fourth in the Indian market, shipped about 3 Million smartphones across the entirety of its phone lineup in Q2 2019; the Redmi Note 7 series by itself managed to ship 5.5 Million units, albeit over five months. This puts into perspective how popular the Redmi Note series has become in India.

If you’re still looking for a reason to push you into purchasing a Redmi Note 7 Pro, the device also recently received official LineageOS 16 support.

Update: Astro White color variant launched for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro and Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S

After pushing the Redmi Note 7 Pro to an open sale model, Xiaomi has launched a new color variant for the phone, as well as for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S. This new color variant offers some more variety to new customers in India. Both the 48MP camera devices will be available in this new color variant, with pre-orders beginning on the midnight of August 8, 2019.

It isn’t immediately clear if this new color variant will also be a part of the open sales, but we figure it will be eventually when demand and supply reach an equilibrium.
