Lenovo-owned Motorola set the precedent for a highly competitive smartphone market in India with the OG Moto G. Over the last five years or so, it has lost its market to Chinese brands which dominate most of the market share in India. Lately, Motorola has been sweating it out to revive its lost dominance and India, being the only growing smartphone market in the world, is among one of its top priorities. The company goes on to focus on its Android One lineup, which was introduced in the country last year with the Motorola One Power. Today, we have the latest phone in the series – the Motorola One Action, which comes with a GoPro-style action camera along with a 21:9 hole-punch display similar to Motorola One Vision.
Motorola One Action shoots ultra-wide horizontal videos vertically
The biggest highlight of the Motorola One Action is its ability to capture horizontal videos while holding the phone vertically. It features a dedicated 16MP ultra-wide video camera solely for this purpose. The sensor, as we’d discovered before the launch of the One Action, is rotated at a right angle. This particularly remedies the peeves related to holding the long smartphone horizontally while capturing a video.
Motorola says they’re taken into consideration the fact that most people now take pictures and videos vertically but still consume content shot horizontally which is why the idea makes sense. There’s electronic image stabilization and 4-in-1 pixel binning to make sure your action-packed videos are blur-free and well-lit.
Apart from that, the Motorola One Action features a 12MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens along with a 5MP depth sensor. The ultra-wide lens cannot be used for still photography so you might have to rely on taking screenshots of the GoPro-esque video you record in the Action Cam mode. On the front, the One Action features a 12MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and it is placed inside a punch hole of the 6.3-inch Full HD+ display.
In terms of performance, the smartphone is equipped with a Samsung Exynos 9609, which is an underclocked Exynos 9610. This is paired with 4GB of RAM and that’s the only option you get on the Motorola One Action. In terms of storage, the smartphone gets 128GB of UFS storage which can be expanded using a microSD card.
There’s a 3,500mAh battery on-board and Motorola says that 10W charging, which they’re calling a fast charger should suffice the needs of consumers. They tell us that the average user is still used to charging their phone at night while sleeping, and the faster charging solution hamper the longevity of the battery’s life.
