While limited inventory was the real reason behind this way of selling devices, Xiaomi used it to create hype about products. This model endured several generations of Xiaomi and Redmi products in India and is still the most common way of getting a smartphone under these brands.

Besides Xiaomi, many online-first brands in India have adopted this model too. However, as Xiaomi continues to be the leading smartphone in India for several quarters running, it has been overhauling the process and opening up several devices for regular sale after severe criticism from prospective buyers. After recently kicking off open sales for the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Xiaomi India has now initiated the open sale of the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro in India.

The Redmi K20 and the K20 Pro will be available for open sale via Mi.com as well as Flipkart. So, if you’ve been planning to get either of the two smartphones, there is no waiting involved, until the product is in stock. Right now, the 8GB/256GB variants of the Redmi K20 Pro (first impressions) do appear to be out-of-stock at the time of writing this article, but the open sale eliminates the prospect of leaving everything aside for a certain time every week to hunt for a device.

POCO F1 gets a price cut
Alongside the open sales for the Redmi K20 series, the original Flagship Killer from Xiaomi i.e. the POCO F1 is getting another price cut in India. With this, the 6GB/128GB model is getting a price cut of ₹2,000 and now costs ₹18,999 while the 8GB/256GB variant gets a massive ₹5,000 price cut over the regular price and is now available for ₹22,999. These prices apply to the regular as well as the Armoured edition variants, which means that Xiaomi has also dropped on the ₹1,000 premium on the special edition model. Meanwhile, the price of the 6GB/64GB remains unchanged at ₹17,999.
This is most likely to clear the stocks of POCO F1 in India but we’re not sure if this to wind up the POCO business or to make way for the very highly anticipated and demanded POCO F2 that fills the gap between Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Redmi K20.

Xiaomi launches 20,000mAh power bank with 18W charging
Besides these price cuts, Xiaomi announced the Power Bank 2i with 20,000mAh capacity with two outlet ports. The power bank supports 18W fast charging via both of these ports and comes with a microUSB connection for power inlet. The power bank itself can be charged at 18W using a supported power brick.
