Realme showcases its 64MP quad cameras in India, first smartphone launching in October

Realme is one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in India. Launched only last year, the company has already chiseled its way into the table for the top 5 smartphone companies (by volume of products sold) in India and among the top 10 worldwide. Since its entry into the market in May 2018, the company has announced nearly ten smartphones and the primary focus has been on innovative pricing. From really price-effective mid-rangers like the Realme 3 Pro to the baseline Realme X, the company has brought some really interesting devices in 2019.

Within a month of its previous launch, Realme just showcased another exciting product. At an event in New Delhi, they talked about the 64MP quad-camera setup that will be seen on a host of devices soon.

Samsung ISOCELL GW1 64MP Camera Sensor

For its 64MP photography,  Realme uses the recently introduced Samsung ISOCELL GW1 sensor. The Samsung sensor is a 1/1.7-inch sensor with a pixel size 0.8μm. It supports 4-in-1 pixel binning, which allows for greater details per pixel, lower noise, and higher quality through 16MP images, especially in low light.

Interestingly, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi beat Realme by talking about its 64MP camera technology, which will also use the same Samsung sensor but Realme boasts that unlike Redmi, a prototype for the 64MP camera is already ready.

The company will be launching three devices with quad-camera devices across various price segments but only one of them will feature the 64MP camera. While two of these devices have been confirmed to be the Realme 5 and the 5 Pro, the company has not revealed details about the 64MP device.

Realme did not reveal the exact specifications of the other sensors but based on the samples shared with us, we can expect sensors for wide-angle, telephoto, and macro photography.

The 64MP smartphone by the company will be available in India before the festival of Diwali (around the end of October). The company did not share any information about the availability of the Realme 5/5 Pro but we hope it to be sooner.
