Motorola One Zoom/One Pro – Full Specifications, Renders, and More

In the last few weeks, there have been numerous leaks for the next device in Motorola’s expanding “One” series: the Motorola One Zoom. As you can guess from the name, this device’s main selling point will be its zoom capability. We’ve already seen leaked renders of this device showing off its large quad-camera arrangement on the rear. We’ve compiled as much information as we can on this device based on these renders, the FCC filing, and our own sources. Here’s what we know about the next Motorola One smartphone, which may also be called the Motorola One Pro in some markets.

Motorola One Zoom Design

Unlike the Motorola One Vision and Motorola One Action, the Motorola One Zoom won’t have a punch-hole display on the front. Rather, there’s a flat display with a U-shaped, waterdrop notch like the Motorola Moto Z4. The notch houses a single front-facing camera, and the top bezel above the notch appears to house the earpiece speaker. We can’t get a clear view of the bottom in these renders, but earlier CAD renders revealed the Motorola One Zoom will have a USB Type-C port, a microphone hole, and a 3.5mm headphone port at the bottom. The CAD renders also showed the phone having a Motorola logo on the bottom bezel, but we don’t see that logo in any of the marketing renders that have leaked. We hope the logo isn’t there because otherwise, the phone’s design will be tacky.

On the right-hand side, we can see the textured power button and flat/smooth volume up/down buttons. We can’t see the left-hand side in these images, but again, the CAD renders come to the rescue. In those images, we can see that there are only antenna bands on the left side. Finally, the top side can be seen in these marketing renders, and in the renders, we can see the phone has a speaker grille, a microphone hole, and the SIM card tray.

On the rear, you’ll find the quad rear camera module housed in a long, rectangular camera bump which is also home to the Motorola icon. On close inspection, the camera bump appears to have a patterned texture which is distinct from the rest of the back. The LED flash is located to the left of this camera bump. The text underneath the LED flash reads “48MP | 1.6μm QUAD PIXEL, 13-81mm, DUAL OIS.”

According to OnLeaks, the phone’s dimensions are 158.7 x 75 x 8.8mm (9.8mm if you include the camera bump), so the camera bump is about 1mm in thickness. These dimensions match the FCC filing, which also reveals that the phone’s diagonal dimension is 165.8mm and that the NFC module is located above the camera bump.

Motorola One Zoom Full Specifications

CPU, RAM, Storage

According to our source, the Motorola One Zoom is powered by the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC. This chipset is fabricated on an 11mm LPP process technology, features 2 Kryo 460 (ARM Cortex A76-based) performance cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz with 6 ARM Cortex A55-based efficiency cores at up to 1.7GHz, and features the Adreno 612 GPU. Our source reveals there will be 4 and 6GB RAM models along with 64GB (from Samsung or SK Hynix) and 128GB (from Samsung) UFS 2.1 storage options. Furthermore, the storage will be expandable thanks to the inclusion of a microSD card slot in the SIM tray.

Display

OnLeaks believes the Motorola One Zoom has a display measuring 6.2-inches, and we can confirm the display resolution is 1080×2340 (Full HD+). Underneath the display is an optical fingerprint scanner manufactured by Goodix.

Cameras

The “Zoom” name in Motorola One Zoom comes from the phone supposedly offering 5x zoom capabilities. Based on the 81mm focal length shown on the back, the telephoto lens offers 3x optical zoom. The 13mm focal length likely pertains to the wide-angle lens. Motorola may be using software algorithms and data from other cameras for the phone’s 5x “lossless” hybrid zoom, which is not uncommon to see these days. The main camera is a 48MP Quad Bayer sensor that produces 12MP images by default via 4-in-1 pixel binning, while the fourth camera is likely used for depth-sensing. Dual OIS will come in handy here to stabilize the 48MP main lens and the telephoto lens.

One of the 16MP cameras will have the OmniVision OV16885 or Sony IMX 516 sensor. The other cameras include the Samsung 48MP S5KGM1SP, Omnivision’s 8MP OV08A10, and Samsung’s 5MP S5K5E9. Meanwhile, the front-facing camera is Samsung’s 25MP S5K2X5.

Some of the camera software features include Motorola’s Night Vision camera mode and an updated camera UI that includes a slider redesign for the zoom, exposure, and face retouching settings.

Battery, Connectivity, and Software

To power the Motorola One Zoom, Motorola has packed a 4,000 mAh battery (model name SCUD KP50 according to the FCC filing). The phone features Motorola TurboPower fast charging, but we don’t know if it’s the faster 27W TurboPower as seen on the Moto G7 Plus.

As for connectivity, the phone features NFC (PN54X) and supports dual nanoSIM cards in some regions. The FCC filing reveals the phone supports LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 17, 38, 41, and 66. As mentioned previously, the phone has a USB Type-C port for charging/data and a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio output.

Previous devices with the “Motorola One” moniker have been members of the Android One program. However, the Motorola One Zoom is not currently being developed as an Android One device. Rather, it appears to be using Motorola’s UI tweaks and even comes with Amazon Alexa integration and other Amazon apps pre-installed.

Motorola One Pro?

In our earlier coverage of this device, we cited a tweet published by Evan Blass indicating that the Motorola One Zoom will be called the Motorola One Pro in some regions. More importantly, the Motorola One Pro will supposedly be part of the Android One program, meaning it won’t come with Amazon apps (but rather more Google apps), a closer-to-Pixel UI (though Motorola’s software is already pretty close), and guaranteed major software updates for 2 years and monthly security patch updates for 3 years.

I can’t corroborate Evan’s tweet, but given his track record, this information on the Motorola One Pro is most likely true.

Launch Date

Bearing a model number of XT-2010-1 and a code-name of “parker,” the Motorola One Zoom is nearing its launch date. The fact that marketing renders of the smartphone have leaked so much in the past few weeks means that Motorola is preparing to announce the phone in the next few weeks. We don’t have a confirmed launch date, but it’s possible we’ll see the smartphone at IFA 2019. So far, we know about 3 different colors: Purple/Violet, Black, and a Copper-ish Brown.

We’ve learned that Motorola is planning to release the One Zoom in Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico, but we don’t know about the company’s plans to launch the device in the U.S. or India. We can at least expect the phone to go on sale in Europe, as an early listing on Amazon Germany revealed a price of €400 (which is approximately Rs. 31,891/$444), but prices never translate neatly between regions. As for the Motorola One Pro, we have no information about when it’ll go on sale, but we expect it to be announced at the same time as the Motorola One Zoom.
