The Moto G6 Play received Android Pie in the US last month. That update brought all the Pie goodies as well as the May 2019 security patches. This month, the phone is getting another update with newer security patches, Digital Wellbeing, and Motorola’s gesture system.
The Android Pie update for the Moto G6 Play lacked some of the features that are typically included. Digital Wellbeing, for example, was not present. This new update adds support for Google’s suite of Digital Wellbeing tools. You can now use these tools to keep an eye on and reduce your screen time.
“One-Button Nav” is Motorola’s own gesture navigation system that launched on the Moto G7. A lot of people say Motorola’s system is what Android Q should have copied. You get a single pill across the bottom that is used for all gestures. Tap it to go home, do a short swipe up to enter multitasking, swipe right to switch to the most recent app, and swipe left to go back. Simple.
Lastly, the update comes with the slightly more updated June 2019 security patches. The update is rolling out right now to the Moto G6 Play in the Great Britain region and it comes in at 603.8 MB. We hope to see it rolled out to more regions soon. This is a nice device and we’re glad to see Motorola/Lenovo stay on top of keeping it updated.
