Fitness trackers and smart bands are getting increasingly popular in India, and the frequent releases from so many players in this space are a testimony of the untapped potential that exists in this space. Once again, Xiaomi has a decent foothold of the market with its own Mi Band 3 and prior releases. But unlike smartphones, there is still a lot of potential left to be explored in this market place. Banking on the success of the previous Honor Band 4 in the country, Honor has now launched the Honor Band 5 to capitalize on the upcoming festive season.
The highlight of the Honor Band 5 is the 2.5D 0.95″ AMOLED full-color display with a resolution of 240 x 120 pixels which can display up to 45 characters. This allows users to use the Band 5 with different watch faces as can be found on the Watch Face Store. The Band can also display real-time information from the phone, and allow users to accept and reject incoming calls. You can also use Find my Phone features, as well as use the Band as a shutter button to take photos. The Honor Band 5 promises two weeks of battery life. For sensors, it comes with a 6-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, and an optical heart rate sensor. In terms of connectivity, the Band syncs with the Huawei Health app on your smartphone, using Bluetooth 4.2.
When it comes to being a fitness tracker, the Honor Band 5 can track and monitor your heart rate, your daily steps, distance covered, stride frequency, speed, calories burned, exercise information and sleep information. The Band 5 is also water-resistant up to 50m, and can automatically recognize swim strokes such as freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, and backstroke; and even calculate the SWOLF score. The fitness tracker can also monitor and analyze sleeping heart rate and breathing.
The Honor Band 5 is priced at ₹2,599 ($37) in India, which is the same price at which the previous band was launched in the country. The Band comes in three colors: Midnight Navy, Coral Pink, and Meteorite Black, and is available for purchase from Flipkart. Do note that unlike the Mi Band series, the Honor Band 5 module cannot be separated from the band, so you cannot swap bands.
